SilenceSilence, a specter that sneaks up on me, Clomping its noiseless footsteps, Like hammers on anvils. It’s a many-tentacled beast, Wrapping up around me, Breathing in my ears, Strangling and choking me. I can’t breathe or fight it off. So I just keep talking About nothing, Anything. Birds chirping at the lights of dawn. I despise the taste of silence, Bitter and harsh, Sand and mud mixed with concrete and poured down my throat. Its very essence is deafening, Like a Boeing 747 taking off at 180 silent decibels. I’m so fearful of the million black Silence

A Dream

In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed-
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.

Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past?

That holy dream- that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding.

What though that light, thro' storm and night,
So trembled from afar-
What could there be more purely bright
In Truth's day-star?
